本期老外来自爱尔兰。
This Friday, I was in Amsterdam. There was a group Chinese tourists. And there was a guy at the front with a blue flag. I used to make a joke, it’s something that is true. It is common as a Chinese man with a camera. Every Chinese man that I’ve seen in a tour, they all have their cameras with them, ready to take photos. Chinese tourists, they are prepared for travel. They are always excited, always looking around, always taking photos.
Gwen
You don’t do that? You don’t have cameras with you when you’re traveling?
Yeah. But everybody has one. Chinese, they’re so technologically-minded. You guys like technology so much. Some of the other people, the will just come and look around. If you look at particularly older Americans, maybe, they have a camera, they just kind be looking around, and maybe one person in the group has a camera.
Gwen
But now it’s easier because you just take photos with your mobile phone. While we are at it(既然说到这个), what do you think of the Chinese tourists.
I’ve never had a problem with Chinese tourists. They’ve never done anything against me.
I have heard though, I’ve heard reports about like...there is a certain generation in China, that generation are the ones that have been complained about the thing, like that they spit, in places they just spit, and even at the good...like shopping centers they spit on the ground, people get really annoyed with that. “Hey, there, you spit?” And they they’ll just spit really loudly so that people hear.
But it’s only that generation between like maybe 40 and 70. The younger generation and the older generation have better manners. That’s the only complaint that I’ve heard. Chinese are normally like...they’ve always been good, but I have seen videos of them fighting on the street. That generation wouldn’t normally have any education, but the younger Chinese students are really well mannered, really polite and pleasant. So I’ve never had a problem with the younger generation. Probably like yourself.
How old are you?
Gwen
I understand. Spitting is really a terrible manner.
I think the fighting as well and speaking really loudly. In China I think you can enter buildings and it’s no problem. But you can’t really do that here. You should ask for permission. You can’t just go into someone’s building. This is the thing of culture differences and people don’t always know what’s right and what’s wrong.
In my country you can just cross the road and it’s no problem as long as you’re really not in front of a car. If there is a car like maybe 10 seconds away, and you know you can get across the road, the police don’t care. But at another place like Amsterdam, I think you can’t do that. But I didn’t really know what the rules were, so I can totally understand the culture differences.
But that’s not a problem with you. That’s just a problem with that generation. Even in China I’ve heard stories like they just pour their toilet on the street. But the only real problem is that generation. For some reason, they are not educated.
Gwen
I have to say I have heard a lot of news like that. I’m a little bit ashamed of that actually. I feel sorry for them.
We’lI not get too negative about it...because, I mean my country has a lot of things which kind of makes being ashamed upon the country as well. A lot of people drink too much alcohol and go crazy. No country is perfect. It’s difficult to find a perfect country. But manners are something which are really universal, aren't they? If you’re going to be...like spitting on the ground, that’s something that most western countries aren’t gonna accept.
有些中国游客在外旅行时确实有些欠妥的行为,我国甚至出了一本《文明出行指南》。
