“In order to”是用來表達一個動作/行動的目的，是中文「藉此」、「這樣才可以」的意思。
(1) I work hard in order to get a promotion.
我努力工作，藉此可以升職。
(2) Jack comes in to work at 6AM in order to leave early.
Jack早上6點上班，這樣才可以早點下班。
(3) Roads are being built in order to improve traffic.
藉著修建道路來改善交通。
“In order to”比較會出現在英文寫作中，日常對話通常會直接用”to”來代替”in order to”。
(4) I go to work early to avoid traffic.
我提早上班，這樣才可以避開塞車。
“So as to”的作用跟”In order to”相同，都是用來表達「目的」。
(5) Many people eat less so as to lose weight.
很多人藉著節食來減肥。
除了”In order to”和”So as to”，我們也可以用”In order that”或” So that”來表達相同意思，但”In order that”和”So that”的用法跟”In order to”和”So as to”有點不一樣。
(6) Jack comes in to work at 6AM so that he can leave early.
Jack早上6點上班，這樣他才可以早點下班。
例句(2)和例句(6)的意思相同，但用法不同。
(7) Roads are being built in order that traffic can be improved.
藉著修建道路來改善交通。
例句(3)和(7)意思也相同。
大家要注意，“In order to”和”So as to”的相反不是”Not in order to”和”Not so as to”，而是”In order not to”和”So as not to”喔。
(8) Kevin decided to move away in order not to live under the same roof as his brother.
Kevin決定搬家，這樣才不用跟他哥一起住。
(9) Maggie recorded the meeting in order not to miss any important information.
Maggie把會議錄下來，這樣才不會錯過重要資訊。
