Historic vs. Historical

Historic and historical are used in slightly different ways. Historic means ‘famous or important in history’, as in a historic occasion, whereas historical means ‘concerning history or historical events’, as in historical evidence. ( Oxford Dictionary)

Historic

Historical

1) connected with history or with the past
2) connected with history as a subject of study

• The main character in the film is based on a real, historical figure.
• 'War and Peace' is a historical novel.
• If you want to understand the conflict you must put it in its historical context.
